Looking for a good Tread Mills

advertisement border Tread Mills

The word tread mills originated from the word tread wheel where an animal or person treads the steps of the wheel to pulverize grain or any other material. It is used as an exercising tool on which a person runs or walks although remaining in a single place. The moving platform of the machine is provided with a broad conveyer belt and a flywheel or an electric motor.

The rear movement of the belt allows the user to run or walk at an equal and opposite (necessarily) velocity. The speed of walking or running is equal to the speed at which the conveyer belt moves. Therefore, the velocity of the tread mills can be measured and controlled. The lighter, simpler and less costly models of the mill passively oppose the movement. This treadmills belt moves only when the user will push it with their feet while walking or running. The more heavier and expensive models of the treadmill are driven with motors.

The first treadmills were originated by Sir William Cubitt who used them in prisons to reform the prisoners. Wayne Quinton and Robert Bruce introduced the first medical treadmill. This machine was designed to cure lung and heart problems. The tread mills used as cardio workout machines were used much later and were designed originally just for hospitals.

There are many advantages of treadmills. Training and exercising on a treadmill provide many health benefits and improve bodys endurance, just like any other non-mill cardio exercises. Running on surfaces can cause more strain to lower back, ankles and knees as compared to doing cardio exercises on a treadmill. All tread mills provide some sort of shock absorption, thus reducing the impact on leg and back muscles. Indoor treadmills can be used by people who do not want to exercise outdoors due to uneven road surfaces, not wanting any attention, harsh weather and hostile neighborhood. Also, they can be used by people who do not want to join activity centers or gyms. People can also read or watch television while exercising on an indoor treadmill.

Some tread mills also come with additional features such as calculating the calories expended, heart rate monitors and step counts. In these machines, the energy spent can also be calculated as many activity factors are known. Also, the speed and the slope of the machine can be calculated and adjusted according to users requirement.

However, like any machine, treadmill comes with its disadvantages also. Purchasing a treadmill and the electricity required to run it can make it much costlier than running or walking outdoors. The unfoldable treadmills also take up large space in the houses. Many people lose their interest in them after some time as they find them tedious and boring. If the belt keeps slipping, then the machine would make loud grinding noises. The imposing of strict pace and the ease of running (due to no wind resistance) can make training for races complicated and unnatural. It may also cause the runner to lose his/her balance and injure him/herself.
